When you need to test the friction coefficient of a material or surface, this fixture is ideal. It uses the tensile motion of the tester to measure the force it takes to pull a weighted sled covered in the tester material across a surface. When used with CALIFORT software, this fixture can test the static and kinetic coefficient of friction.
The sled measures 2.5 x 2.5in (63.5x63.5mm), the plane measures 6" wide x 12" long with a supporting base of 8" wide and 15" long in aluminum.
Tests in accordance with ASTM D1894 (Standard Test Method for Static and Kinetic Coefficients of Friction of Plastic Film and Sheeting)
Typical applications: Film and flexible packaging
Required apparatus: motorized testing machine i.e. STENTOR II CC
Operating principles:
Prepare and cut the sample according to the ASTM D1894 requirements
Connect the sled from the friction fixture to the motorised testing machine crosshead using the provided nylon filament
Start the test: the tester drives at 150mm/min (6.0in/min)
The sled slides on the plane and simultaneously the tester is displaying in real time the graph: Force vs time and the measurments: the Static (initial peak force) and Kinetic (average force during sliding) friction
